This next On The Rise artist goes by the name of Lil Cold. This first time I heard his music was this past week on Instagram. I noticed as I was listening that I was bobbing my head and getting super hyped as I was listening…so much so that I forgot I was listening to an undiscovered artist. Lil Cold is from Cleveland and has been making trap music circa 2013, but just decided to release some of the “500” songs he has recorded. Check out our interview below to learn about his influences and his big plans for the future!

Where are you from?

“The Land! I grew up in the metropolitan area most of my life. Cleveland is where it’s at. Right now I’m chillen out here in Brunswick, OH. Lookin to move down to Los Angeles.”

How would you describe your style?

“That’ll stay on the low for a bit, keep posted on Instagram & SoundCloud @itsalilcold and you’ll find out.”

Who are your biggest musical influences?

“A couple I can think of is Kendrick Lamar for his lyrical work and flow (he’s a genius when it comes to his lyrics), Future for his work ethics and the amount of time and effort he puts into his work (not to mention some hard hitters). Drake with his constant hit making and style, Jay-Z, Macklemore, Mac Miller, MGK, Dr. Dre, I have to mention Kanye West for sure, he’s a mad man but he’s got it figured out. That’s what I’m aiming for, more than just music, everything: clothing lines, movies, music, you name it, I want to be a part of it all. I can’t leave out those in the game right now that I respect but don’t represent, I only represent myself. Let’s just say I’m down to make a track with Post Malone, Lil Pump, XXXTentacion, etc. I would mention more but I’m not sure how long this interview can go on for.”

What inspired you to start rapping?

“It’s like having the last piece to a puzzle, you’re like “oh shit, it’s done.” or that “aha” moment you know? I got heavy into making trap music about late 2013 – 2014 and kept going with it. Started rapping and writing down some bars to see how I felt about it and damn, it’s lit. Didn’t release anything for years, probably made over 500 tracks to be honest, and released something when I felt ready. To sum it up, it was just about being the complete set, business side, music, singing, and rapping etc. Now that I think of it, what inspired me a little bit were those who already had an established sound in the music industry aka. Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West. The power in their messages, the flows and styles, creative works of the music videos, show design, sound engineering etc. Just fucking insane. I’m not dick riding here, everyone has seen it, the work and power behind it is amazing. Which boils down to a “They can do it, I can do it” type situation.”

What was the moment that you decided rap was what you were going to do?

“I don’t want to say “rap” is what I’m going to do, I don’t want to be classified as a “rapper”. I’m an artist, from all angles. Music with singing and rapping, clothing lines, other business which I’ll mention or plug in the future, actual art pieces, you name it. Lil Cold as a brand will be much larger than just a rapper although it plays a part in what I do.”

What are your plans for the future?

“Take over the world. I’ve waited all my life to find a clear path in what I wanted to do with this music shit and now I’ve got it down. 2018 is my year and its chilly season. Just released Money Man but I’ve got much more on the way, keep posted for more releases.”
