On the Rise: RayMoney

It is my pleasure to introduce you to this weeks featured On The Rise artist. His name is RayMoney, from Silver Spring, Maryland. I first heard Ray yesterday morning on Twitter as I was boarding my flight to Chicago from Dallas, where he was on stage performing with such high energy. He recently opened up for the Game, YFN Lucci, Shy Glizzy, WillThaRapper, and will be opening for PNB Rock in December. I was lucky enough to land an interview with Ray, which you can read below to learn more about his plans for the future!

Where are you from?

“I’m from Silver Spring, MD, I was born there but I was raised the majority of my life in Prince George’s County. About 15 miles from Washington DC. I want to be one of the next artist from the DMV area to make it and out the area on the map with my craft.”

How would you describe your style?

“I would say my style varies. I try to be as versatile as possible. From club bangers, radio bangers, whether it be hip hop , hardcore rap, or an R & B track, I’ve touched each of those genres and feel comfortable with crafting those type of songs. When it’s comes to performing on stages and at concerts I have a high energy , give it my all type of style on stage. I try to be as marketable and memorable as possible. Outside of the music, I’m a pretty chill, laid back guy that likes to enjoy life and have fun.”

Who are your biggest musical influences?

“My biggest musical influences are Tupac, Michael Jackson, and Biggie. I have a lot more but those names right there really set the bar high , and paved the way for the next generation. They all told stories in their music and inspired people in the process. That’s my main goal right now. I want to use this music craft and talent to inspire the next generation. That’s what it’s all about to me.”

What inspired you to start rapping?

“I was around music a lot before pursuing it. I had a lot of friends pursuing it. I would be in their studio sessions and it was just something about the process of them crafting the song that really intrigued me. It was also some local artist who i listened to frequently and I saw their success evolve and that inspired me. Just seeing people who came from rough and humble beginnings grind hard to the point to where they get signed or make a name for themselves was truly motivational and inspirational for me.”

What was the moment that you decided rap was what you were going to do?

“I knew rap was something I wanted to do when I was writing my first song. It was 2014. I was vibing with the beat. The words just flowed, the words came so easy, but not only that it seemed as though my mind expanded. Punchlines came Easy, hooks came easy. It felt like it was destined. I’m all about following instincts, and ultimately that’s when Raymoney was born.”

What are your plans for the future?

“I plan to keep evolving as an artist. I want to keep doing big shows and concerts, they are my favorite. I recently opened up for the Game, YFN Lucci, Shy Glizzy, WillThaRapper, & next month I open up for PNB Rock. Honestly I just want to do whatever it takes to get my name and brand out there. My apparel line is one of the ways I’m doing such. Everyone can check that out on my website ! People can keep up with all my moves on there. I want to continue to inspire and motivate people to chase their dreams no matter the obstacles. Im a firm believer that anyone can achieve whatever they want as long as they are motivated , focused, and driven. Anything is possible! God Bless!”
